inspiring documentary follows the journey of rural Kenyan mothers who have become unexpected climate warriors through the innovative "Mti Mtito Initiative." Spearheaded by visionary leader Danson Mwashako, the program ingeniously links childbirth with environmental stewardship, providing new mothers with tree seedlings to plant for each baby born. The film captures five years of transformation as 35,000 trees take root, alongside the parallel growth of empowered women farmers cultivating high-value crops like macadamia and avocado.
Initiative: “Mti Mtoto” (Small Tree Project) rewards new mothers with 5 tree seedlings per child to combat deforestation and poverty. Impact: 35,000+ trees planted since 2018; women now grow high-value crops like macadamia and avocado for income. Empowerment: Transforms mothers into environmental stewards while boosting food security and family livelihoods. Significance: A replicable model linking climate action, women’s empowerment, and economic resilience in rural Kenya.
Ranches and wildlife conservancies in Kenya mitigate drought through sustainable rangeland management, the creation of dry-season "grass banks," and the implementation of community-focused water and livelihood programs. These strategies have positive ecological impacts, but also present challenges regarding traditional grazing access and benefit equity.
